He was born in 1973 in Istanbul. He graduated from Dokuz Eylül University in 1993.
He started his writing career with calligraphy. He received Rik'a education from Rümeysa ODABAŞ and Dilek ULUDAĞ. He started calligraphy education with Erhan OLCAY and at the same time he also started arabic calligraphy education with Mustafa Cemil EFE. In 2016, he received calligraphy certificate from Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society (CLAS) which is an international calligraphy association. He attended Denis Brown and Ewan Clayton's calligraphy workshops. He participated in various group exhibitions.
Currently, He continues arabic calligraphy education with arabic calligrapher Mustafa Cemil Efe and calligraphy education with calligrapher Erhan Olcay in Küçükçekmece Traditional Arts Academy.
In his private studio called "Kalem Sanat", Soner Özcan, pursues exhibition organisations, logo designs, traditional paper painting, pencil making. He also gives calligraphy lessons in various public and private institutions.
